Favorite Childhood TV Shows

Daily writing prompt
What TV shows did you watch as a kid?

Growing up, I remember a lot of time with the TV screen. Yes, they say it’s not good for children, but I learned my English from American and English sitcoms, movies and cartoons. It’s why to this day I get asked where I’m from often and shock people with my answer. You see, I’m Croatian born and raised and have never left this continent yet almost daily, I’m asked this questioned and when they hear Croatia, the immediately say either American or Canadian (does not apply to Americans or Canadians, they know).

So you see, the TV was my first English teacher.

There’s the matter of cartoons, but I couldn’t tell you now when my shows were on. I would just turn on Cartoon Network (because that’s all we had at the time, along with the national TV airing dubbed ones) and whatever came on, I would watch it. There’s a few of them I remember fondly: Scooby Doo, Dexter’s Laboratory, Top Cat, Tom and Jerry, Johnny Bravo, Ed, Edd N Eddy, Powerpuff Girls. Beetlejuice wasn’t there, something’s telling me now it might have been dubbed in Croatian but Beetlejuice was worth it ❤

  1. Girl From Tomorrow
  2. Alf
  3. Sabrina, the Teenage Witch
  4. Star Trek: New Generation
  5. Xena: Warrior Princess
  6. M*A*S*H
  7. The X-Files
  8. Seinfeld
  9. The Nanny
  10. Only Fools and Horses
  11. The Tribe
  12. ‘Allo’ Allo!
  13. Prince of Bel-Air
  14. You Rang, M’Lord?

My second list though in involves shows from my childhood is more of teen favourite, so it’s really borderline. While I blame a lot of my writing choices on my teenage favourites, realistically, I was watching plenty of Sci-Fi, Fantasy and mystery growing up too.

  1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and Angel)
  2. Roswell
  3. Charmed
  4. Gilmore Girls
  5. Firefly
  6. Dark Angel
  7. Malcom in the Middle
  8. One Tree Hill
