A tribute to a great writer

Where did your name come from?

Let me briefly tell you about the man who went by Sergije Luca. There was this writer who translated and wrote articles under the aforementioned name. It was one of his pen names, but my absolute favourite.

When Sergije Luca was a name already existing, I was growing up. I had thought this was the way to write – with a pen name. I remember the day I decided on the first name: Victoria. I had settled on it and went into the living room. I had spent days on it, thought of names like Tara (my mom had said once or twice she would have liked to name me Tara or Neva if she had been the one to choose my first name).. in the end, I had chosen Victoria Luca, and came back to tell my dad. He’d only nodded his head, it was his quick way of responding when it had become difficult to commute verbally so the nod had meant everything to me.

A single nod had meant everything to me. There was a time when my dad was my world. His word was my law, his world was my world.

L.V. was inspired by my best friend. She suggested initials worked better for an author, and thus I came with L.V. – Liz Victoria. It’s simple enough, combining the love of my nickname Liz and Victoria, the name I chose in the honour of my dad. ❤️

So, there you have it…

~ Love, L. V. Luca
