Beyond the Page
It has been many weeks since we began the life of this segment. Beyond the Page is made for us to get to know each other better, and I’ve been all too happy to oblige in this. I’ve never been one to share my life actively on social media, and I’ve usually had small bursts of activity in this attempt before going completely silent. Writing weekly blog posts and sharing bits and pieces in this format has made it easier for me to do so.

The one thing I’m missing right now is you.
I would love to get to know the people that read this and hear your comments.
What do you think of this segment so far? Is there a piece from it that you liked, or did it inspire you? Tell me about that! 🙂
Back to School: Part 3
For today’s blog post, we continue a topic from the end of September, when I shared with you about finding the perfect course and how it had started. It’s been over a month since, and let me tell you – it’s been scary and exciting to be a student again.
In case you were wondering, part two was the photo shoot experience.
There is one important thing I’ve learned about myself in the past month, and that is that I’m not the same person I was in my late teens and early twenties (it should have been obvious, right?) When I was a student for the first time, I was a lot less focused and driven than I am now. I see this in the way younger students are, and I do recognize myself in them. When you’re young, you think you could live forever, and as much as you enjoy something, you might not realize how little you apply yourself.
Youth gets in the way, I guess.
My First Grade
Of the nine subjects I take for this course, all nine have given us assignments. One of them was due by the end of October, and I am happy to say my first grade was 83% (8.3 out of 10), which in today’s education in Ireland, means a Distinction (we call it Excellent or 5, or A as the US may recognize it as). That made me really proud, and of course, I had to tell my partner, my best friends and my mom (not in that order).
However, having had my two-minute celebration, there are so many other assignments.
Assignments Over Mid-Term
This week was mid-term for us, and we had no classes since last Friday (we’re back tomorrow). All this week, I’ve spent my mornings reviewing all the assignments and typing through them. I’m nowhere near finished. I have an essay with a 5000-word limit; I’m about to reach it, and yet I have a small section to finish before Wednesday, and we haven’t even touched upon a big part of it. So, there will definitely be some editing to do as well before it’s ready to go.
I spent two days working on a website because the bootstrap we use was hell to work with as I had imagined the wireframe to go…
My Design Skills Portfolio has to get attention before Monday again because we have weekly schedules on what needs to be completed to be on time with our Logo Assignment, and another subject is part two of this assignment, so I can’t really get in too far with it without doing part one. Also, I’ve never worked with vectors in Photoshop, so that’s a bit stressful. My current practice homework includes creating a pumpkin as a vector… it looks weird, to say the least.
And that first subject where the first assignment is done and dusted already has the next one starting, and would you believe it… it’s a blog post! I’m most entertained by this, as blogging is something I have been doing for a while now.
Then there is the matter of reels. If you have seen my social media, you would know I’ve attempted to put up a few over the last few months. But I have a subject where I have to post reels; this is homework. I’ve put up a few, but I guess I overthink them, and I’ve seen reels on Instagram that say do not overthink reels… it’s not the best advice for me.
So you see, the last month has been equally exciting and scary for me.
A lot has been going on, and I’m still thrilled to have this opportunity to get to know the people teaching us and to learn the given lessons because they are proving invaluable. For the first time in a long time, I would not apply the word stressful.
The Journey
It’s tough; it requires a lot of work and attention, as well as a lot of consistency and persistence to do my assignments and keep up with this blog and my social media (which I now have two because I have school accounts for my Digital Marketing subject). Yet, throughout this journey, I would describe it as a remarkable journey.
The journey I have been waiting for my whole life.
It also has its own soundtrack, of which the first song is Athena Cage’s All or Nothing.
And there you have it, another update on what it’s like to be a student again in my thirties. This has been another blog post within the Beyond the Page segment, brought to you by the love of this author for her writing and current adventures.
Be sure to like, share & subscribe.
Leave a comment while you’re here or on social media because I would love to get to know my readers and hear your thoughts.
As always, I want to know about you, the reader. Tell me about your journey, course or school experience, or new job opportunity. If I’ve learned anything from the likes of T. Harv Eker, Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, Rebecca Louise and so on, everyone is on their own journey, even when we can’t see what that journey is. It’s the toughest ones that are the most worth it in the end. It’s when we grow.
Bottom line is, even if you see ’em coming, you’re not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 2, episode 21: Becoming, Part One.
To finish this post, I’m adding one of my all-time favourite quotes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I don’t think about it as often as I used to, but it’s probably the first inspirational quote I heard. And have known for a long time just how true it is.
Until the next one,
~Love, L.V.
