Inspiration Monday
It has been a beautifully hectic year with a lot of developments. In the past six months, I have been a multimedia student. During that time, I placed this account on hiatus while focusing on assignments and projects (which included keeping a student social media account active). I have created vectors in Photoshop, recorded and produced a music video, built my first website, visited Spain, learned the basics of Illustrator, designed a magazine cover and much more. It has been a wonderful experience.
So, what am I doing now?
We have reached the last weeks of this school year. My workload is still hefty, with projects, assignments and a few deadlines looming over me. Part of my final project in movie editing, for example, is creating a film trailer and, in digital marketing, to build a social media schedule…
The film trailer project proved to be somewhat of a creative block. I couldn’t stop thinking about how big production companies record their movies first and have a good bit of footage before creating their first film trailer. And yet here I am, starting from scratch and creating the trailer script and storyboard before beginning to shoot. Therefore, coming to terms with this and deciding on a subject was somewhat tricky.
What is the subject of my film trailer?
Last year, I created The Wolf’s Heir: Katrine’s Awaking short story for the Something or Other Publishing, LLC (SOOP) short story competition. The story had entered the judging section, but the judge ultimately felt there was too much going on in the story and there was enough material here to create a book (and thought it would be a good idea to expand it). I suppose, on some level, he was right, as Katrine is a character who has been developed over a decade, so a lot was going on. Because of the material, this felt like a good option for my film trailer.
Why didn’t I go with Just One?
That story is much broader, with more characters and more town-wise settings. This would require getting a lot of actors, shooting in the town, and so on. In the end, this was the main reason.
Where am I at?
I have completed the script, and the storyboard outlines for the film trailer. I also have a shooting location near me in Ireland. Each will contribute to the sensation of a forest-like moon (the story takes place on a fictional inhabitable moon called Uropia) with ancient buildings. I have also enlisted the help of three friends who used to write stories with me and, therefore, know Katrine very well in her original universe (Star Wars). I have also purchased some props and roughly planned wardrobe, hair, and makeup.
Today, I will begin shooting the first scenes, primarily the location, point of view, etc., and the movements. In the next two weeks, I want to film most of the footage necessary for this and acquire the voiceovers to be included.
Any other news?
The digital marketing project I mentioned included a posting schedule for the next few weeks and finding a client. I chose to make myself the client. So, I’ll change this account over the following weeks and return some activity.
I hope you enjoy what I have coming…
Until next time…
