Katrine was running. She didn’t know for how long. Her daughter stirred in the seat beside her, making the woman turn. Larentia was innocent in this story, a prize possession for a father who demanded an heir.
At the age of twenty-seven, Katrine was of small build. She had luscious, long brown hair and blue eyes. They said they glowed when she cast magic, but this trait belonged to her siblings, Chloe and Kedric, when they changed. It’s the same as their dad. Katrine didn’t change, nor had she ever. Her eyes could, therefore, not glow.
Her older sister, Chloe, disappeared a decade ago.
She went after her when she was only seventeen.
Their destination was Uropia VII, the only habitable moon in the system. Kat couldn’t stop thinking about whether she had made a mistake in coming here—after all, this was precisely what Idris obsessed about the whole time they were together. He had told her about the moon and where their species had come from. They were once overlords, and he intended to rule over it again.

Publication of the Wolf’s Heir: Katrine’s Awakening

You have seen the reels on my social media feed, haven’t you? Something is coming, and I am so proud that everything has aligned to publish a special story.
The Wolf’s Heir: Katrine’s Awakening is a short story written in 2023 as a submission for the Something or Other Publishing short story contest in the Science Fiction genre. Specifically, it falls in the sub-genre Science Fantasy due to the additional elements of the supernatural (witches and wolves). I have written about this short story before, but Katrine is a long-time fictional character initially written within the Star Wars roleplay universe. It has taken me several years to develop her, and even before that, I worked on developing her mother, Curupira and the maternal family she hails from (relating to the Witches of Dathomir that have grown incredibly through the roleplay verse.
It is an action-packed short story filled with details and specific scenes that mark her discovery of her paternal home, where the wolves once ruled but had since left to travel the galaxy for various reasons.
Katrine Vultose is the mother of a little girl, a witch, and the daughter of a witch and a wolf. She has always been different. Raised predominately among witches, she was considered different because of who her father was and because her mother, Curupira, was different in her own way. Katrine was rejected by her peers and sought a destiny away from where she was born, especially after her older sister disappeared. This led the blue-eyed young woman into a very different life, one in which she had thought she had found love and given birth to her daughter, then ran again, hiding from what she had left behind.
When Katrine returns to Uropia, the habitable moon, she is running away from something. Uropia is where she chooses to hide from her past but stumbles upon opposition from the local population, who no longer want to be ruled by their old masters. It is also where Katrine rediscovers her strength and learns an important truth about who she really is… within over four thousand words, we follow Katrine as she rediscovers where the wolves originated from and discovers a secret about herself.
There will come a time when The Wolf’s Heir will become a full-fledged book in its own right or potentially a series, considering the rich background from which I can draw inspiration. With the development of her maternal history, her mother, and her ancestry discovered through writing with others, The Wolf’s Heir has the potential to become a book series in its right—one that could potentially follow multiple generations rather than just a singular character.
I wish to share the story about Katrine, a moment in her life where she embarks on a transformative journey that challenges her beliefs and tests her inner strength.
