The Introduction

It doesn’t matter what form a story comes. With the right kind of imagination, it can weave an extraordinary story. This story will forever captivate readers, viewers, or listeners. I grew up with stories that fascinated me. They kept me glued to the screen or reading until the early morning hours over and over again.
When I had watched something or read something so many times, I would invent my own characters or think of adding more depth to the existing story for the simple reason that I had questions. This is how Just One came into reality.
I loved the already beautiful storyline. The details weren’t completely explored on the TV show. Because of this, I sought to answer these questions myself.
The Roswell universe
Roswell was a TV show created by Jason Katims, inspired by the book series written by Melinda Metz, Roswell High. The TV show heavily drew inspiration from the books yet made its own path in both character development and storytelling.

Roswell, New Mexico, the unofficial reboot TV show that aired in recent years, took more from the books than the original one did in regard to character background. It also took more with setting up the story.
Even though it was unique in the sense of the TV show timeline.
Our lead characters were no longer high school students (as they were in Roswell and Roswell High). Instead, they were adults ten years in the future.
My Roswell High Review
Not too long ago, I gave my review of Roswell High book series, which you can read here.
At the time, I was halfway through this book series and was thoroughly enjoying the content Melinda Metz wrote. It was a different take on the characters I knew and loved. The storyline focused far more on the alien ancestry.
This significantly impacted our lead characters.

There was one character whose story I didn’t like. William Sandler was absolutely brilliant in his role of Jim Valenti. However, I could see his beginnings in another character, Melinda Metz.
I am even more thrilled that Jason Katims chose to rewrite Jim Valenti in Roswell.
You can read the rest of the review in the previous blog post.
Questions about Roswell
Just One was a way for me to explore my own ideas. The original main cast was all present. I wonder about certain things.
Why is Liz so crucial into the story, when she’s seemingly just a human girl?
Throughout the course of the TV show she held the position of their second leader.
Why did they touch upon the fact that Liz changed in season 2? They left it on the back burner until the second half of season 3. This part of the season was more driven by human enemies. Ava opened the door to this line of thought.
Why wasn’t the idea of Liz’s powers shown in the Future Max episode?
What else happened in this future timeline?
Why was such an importance given to the Royal Four and the four being a unit?
It didn’t seem to always matter.
Why does Khivar focus on Maz (and Liz) in End of the World?
How come Khivar goes after Isabel in season 3 but Future Max explains she died in the future?
Where was Serena, who seemed to know so much about the Granolith in the show?
Why is there such focus on “Max’s young bride” but there is no connection?
And as this has been brought up by other fans… Liz was in the room when this message was heard. This is not something I cam up with, but it’s something I thought of often.
The Real Ava Fan Fiction
All these questions made me wonder. Was Liz’s background more intertwined with the aliens? The show eventually lead us to believe so. It made me question these bits and pieces that were mentioned but weren’t fully explained in the end.
How was Ava so different from Tess?
We could argue nurture vs nature but there was a theory of the two being truly different people. Ava and Liz created a lovely bond and showed a possible friendship could bloom between them.

There was a strong emphasis on Tess and Max. Tess insisted on it heavily. The rest of the show seemingly pointed to this as well. Yet Ava makes a point to say Zan was always waiting for someone else.
In Max and Liz, we saw the answer to this.
But the question remained, was Liz the one Zan was waiting for as well or if someone else was? Perhaps Serena?
This alone made me write a short fan fiction. It showed Ava was not who we met in the show. In fact, she was a Liz doppelgänger. This revelation would shatter Tess’s position in our Roswell group.
I enjoyed writing that story but ultimately chose to leave it as a fan fiction.
About the Just One book series
Questions like this were the foundation of Just One. As the original fan fiction progressed, a history of all these characters developed. Liz’s history took me into an entirely divergent story.
Liz’s past became the foundation for why the aliens were sent to Earth.
She was the key to peace. She was the reason why Khivar ultimately didn’t want Isabel. Their connection didn’t save her from death in the future.
More importantly, Max and Liz became something more than just teenage lovers.
They became a love that lasted through lifetimes.
It became the answer to what Zan was always waiting for. It also explained why Max locked eyes with Liz when they were children. He had loved her since that very moment. They were the end all and be all.
Combined with my curiosity of reincarnation, it became the foundation of Just One. This, in return, gave birth to a whole book series rather than just one book.
Just One

The future of their planets depends on two teenage girls.
Eveleen Collins lives in a small town and every so often, she dreams of Valerie’s life. They may look the same, but she knows they’re nothing alike. Valerie Flores meets a mysterious man and begins to awaken her memories. She knows Eveleen is real and not just a dream. Cameron Dimitrov has always liked Ellie, but she’s never seen him, until now.
Both girls begin to have the same dreams, in which they live a life that doesn’t belong to them, light years away. Things aren’t as they appear; they’ll have to figure out how they were delivered into their present existence. True love never dies, but the girls soon learn it’s forever reborn.
Just One focuses on Eveleen and Cameron. The book will have multiple points of view. This will accommodate a big group of characters. However, the focus will be on our teenage couple. Through Eveleen we will learn how our aliens came to Earth, and what her part in it. This book will cover themes of learning, understanding, and embracing. It also includes elements of young love, past lives, and the burden of what was.
It a simple: are we to blame for what does before us did?
Just One is set to be released in Summer of 2025.
Having said that, there will be more mysteries to be revealed in the future.
Just One: Edge of Never
Can the woman save the future of her race?
The story continues through Kivana Eli as she enters the present to complete what must be done in her homeworlds. Her past has been left shambles, and the future has to be saved. She’ll have to catch up with present day Earth and figure out how she will save her own soul in the process. Many familiar faces will be back, helping us tell the story of what happened next.
Will Kivana Eli or Corran succeed? What happens if she does succeed? What happened to Cameron, Felicity, Dominic and others in the wake of the big changes happening to their worlds? Will the just one love of Ellie and Cameron win in the end or will Kivana Eli forge a new path for herself in spite of what should be.
Just One: Edge of Never is a direct sequel to Just One. It will allow Eveleen’s past life to explore her potential life with the man she loves. They’re given a second chance on Earth while the other members of their group discover their own path. Kivana Eli believes she is the one to bring peace to her worlds, and it is her penance. Yes, this will leave our leading man Cameron heartbroken without his Eveleen, but the story does not end there.
There is a selfish theme to the story. It is the desire of someone to reclaim a life that doesn’t belong to them. They want to experience the life they were robbed from.
Just One: Edge of Never is set to be released in Summer of 2026.
Just One: Weight of the World

Just One: Weight of the World is a chance to start again. This time though, we know our past lives. We know what Kivana Eli has done and why everything changed in the past that led them here. But our aliens living in Colletown do not.
Again, Eveleen takes the lead. She is aware of what occurred before and tries to fight the connection she has with Cameron. She is still burdened by Kivana Eli’s journey.
Things on Earth may have started over, but things back home are still progressing wrong and need to be rectified.
It’s intended to get darker and go deeper in the burdens of those before us. Yet, somehow we find a light at the end. In the darkest hour, we learn there is a light in the end. There is a lot happening in this story right now so I won’t go into too much detail.
Right now, Just One: Weight of the World is a long draft that needs to be cut down.
There will be a short story. This brief adventure focuses solely on Eveleen’s journey. The completion of the main storyline will also occur. Ultimately, Just One will have five main books (one of which will be the short story).
Just One: Weight of the World is set to release in Summer of 2027.
However, this is not the end of the overall series.
Just One: Conspiracy
I realised that the main background story is a sequel in its own right. This happened in the course of writing Just One. The events that led to their past life were dictated by something else that came before that. It wasn’t obvious to me. This really highlights the strong pantser in me. I let the story take me when it needs to go. I discovered a character relevant to our Just One story had a dark secret. We will focus on that here.
The working title for this story is Just One: Conspiracy.
This will be hinted throughout the main storyline through different minor characters. The true story will reveal the main conspirators. It will explain the reasons why this came to pass. We will know what the result was in the end.
Other Books in the Series
There are some other segments of this book stories in place but there are just outlines right now. They could potentially be added as short stories and history books.
For now, I’ll leave them as mysteries. I will focus on the Just One book series that has been planned and drafted until now.
